Art Lover’s Canvas

Art Basel is upon us in South Florida. Art collectors and aficionados are ramping up for what promises to be a spectacular event. And for all those who are asking themselves, “If I buy another work of art – where in the world would I display it?” – do I have news for you!

I have a luxurious listing that is both a contemporary masterpiece and an art gallery – and I want to tell everyone about this utterly unique home that is ideal for an art collector or a connoisseur of beautiful things!

The home is in the exclusive Ponce/Davis estates area and was built for the Luria family in the 80s – specifically to showcase their magnificent art collection. The architect, Miguel Rodrigo-Mazure, built the home as a living work of art with a framework of cubist rectangles played off against sweeping curves and impeccable attention to light.

The estate has since been painstakingly updated but remains an architectural marvel and art collector’s dream home. I recently visited with the present home owner, an avid art collector, and discussed her love of art, the home’s unique traits and the upcoming Art Basel event.

Here is a quick Q&A I conducted. (Blog = Citizen Journalism)

Carole: How has art impacted your life?

Home Owner: It gives me great joy every day to look at color and creativity.  I’m fortunate to be surrounded by things that inspire me.

Carole: How does this home compliment your art collection?

Home Owner: The wall space is large enough to display my large canvas collection. The light is absolutely fantastic also! It lends itself perfectly to self expression.

Carole: Your home is an architectural masterpiece. Do you feel it is a piece of art in and of itself?

Home Owner: When I first saw the house it had no art in it but I saw the angles, the space and the light and knew that it had incredible possibilities to make it a home with a warm environment. I did think it was a piece of art in its own right.

Carole: Ponce/Davis and specifically your private enclave – are spectacular locations. What do you like best about this area?

Home Owner: It is convenient to wonderful shopping and entertainment in South Miami. It is a quiet, peaceful environment where I love walking my dogs.  The neighbors are great too!

Carole: Art Basel is coming up. Are there any artist’s work you are looking forward to seeing?

Home Owner: All the ones I cannot afford!

In my opinion, serious art collectors wishing to live in an exclusive South Florida neighborhood in the ideal setting cannot afford to not preview this contemporary masterpiece.

  1. My lovely wife and I are planning on driving over and checking it out.

  2. Wonderful. This is a little piece of paradise in Miami!

  3. We live over in Sarasota, and have to get out of here at least once a month. We love to go to Miami for the action, and check out a few galleries and eat at the Versailles.

  4. Versailles in one of my favorite Cuban restaurants. Miami is so vital and alive morning, noon and night. This is a great place to live.

  5. I totally understand wanting to fill your home with art investments. However, if you really want to fill your home with art you love, you should consider buying from the vast array of artists who may or may not be in the Art Basel circuit. If you do research online, there are so many artists who would love to sell their work to you. It would enhance your life and fill creative voids. I just ask everyone to consider the possibilities of supporting creative lives. All of our lives.
